I ♥ faces {Week 14 “My Story In Photos: Dessert Recipe Edition" Photo Challenge}

This week's entry was definitely a challenging one for me.  Although I love to cook, I am not much of a dessert person.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good dessert now and then, but it's no passion of mine and baking & making desserts is definitely not one of my strong points (I make a super yummy spinach & goat cheese quiche, though) Anyhow, this week was also my sister & her husband's 19 wedding anniversary, so I decided to take this challenge and bake them a German Chocolate Cake- it's my sister's favorite.  I started baking the cake at home, but time got the best of me, so the frosting (the best part) had to be done at their place.  Here's my dessert story in photos...

  • ingrediens for coconut frosting:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 medium egg yolks
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 10 ounces fresh or frozen and thawed grated coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups finely ground pecans

Baking a cake from scratch is way too intimidating for me, so I heart Betty Crocker!

Just follow the easy directions on the box and 45 mins. later, you've got a yummy chocolate cake!
Here are the ingredients for the Coconut Frosting.
Pecans getting ready to be finely ground

Pouring the cup of sugar

Once the sugar, egg yolks, and evaporated milk are mixed well, add the butter.

Simmer for about 15 minutes until the mixture thickens.  Add the vanilla, coconut, and nuts.

Whisk it all together and let cool.

Voila, German Chocolate Cake
